About the Allen Centre for Nature-based Solutions

Mission

Our mission is to advance science-based, community-centred nature-based solutions that strengthen climate resilience, restore ecosystems, and support a sustainable economy. Founding Director Cindy Fan Allen

Cindy Fan Allen founded the Allen Centre for Nature-Based Solutions with the belief that meaningful climate progress begins with understanding and caring for the natural systems that support our communities. Through her philanthropic work in sustainability and her involvement in multiple nonprofit initiatives, Cindy has made significant contributions to bringing together diverse partners and communities to support meaningful environmental action.

Through the Allen Centre, she aims to create a platform where innovation, stewardship, and community come together to accelerate nature-based solutions in Canada and beyond.

What Are Nature-based Solutions?

Nature-based solutions (NbS) are actions that protect, restore, and sustainably manage ecosystems to address societal challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and community vulnerability. This includes forest conservation, wetland restoration, improved land management, natural infrastructure, and other strategies that harness the power of ecosystems to provide climate mitigation, adaptation, and ecological resilience.
