About the Allen Centre for Nature-based Solution

The Allen Centre for Nature-based Solutions is a research and innovation hub dedicated to advancing solutions rooted in natural systems. We work across disciplines to understand how forests, wetlands, soils, and landscapes can help address climate change, biodiversity loss, and community resilience.

Our work bridges ecological science, Indigenous knowledge, policy design, and on-the-ground implementation, building pathways for nature to thrive while supporting the well-being of people and the planet.

Key Pillars

Pillar 1: Ecosystem Science & Restoration

Understanding ecosystem processes and accelerating the restoration of forests, wetlands, and landscapes to enhance ecological resilience.

Pillar 2: Natural Climate Solutions

Advancing scientifically grounded approaches that use nature to mitigate climate change through forest carbon, soil health, blue carbon, and land stewardship.

Pillar 3: Ecosystem-based Adaptation & Resilience

Developing strategies that protect communities from climate impacts, including wildfire resilience, flood prevention, and urban nature solutions.

Pillar 4: Nature Finance & Implementation

Designing innovative financing models and tools to scale nature-based solutions, from restoration investment to nature-positive economic development.

Featured Initiatives

Canada Nature Economy Outlook 2030

This flagship report offers a comprehensive assessment of how Canada’s natural assets can drive climate resilience, economic growth, and sustainable innovation. The Outlook analyzes national trends, identifies priority opportunities, and presents an evidence-based roadmap for governments, industry leaders, Indigenous communities, and investors working at the intersection of nature and the economy. As we prepare this landmark publication, we are inviting collaborators, contributors, and expert authors from academia, government, industry, and civil society to join us in shaping Canada’s nature-based economy.

Cross-Industry Workshops

We bring together leaders from forestry, conservation, government, finance, agriculture, and sustainable materials to explore how nature-based solutions can be scaled across sectors. The workshops connect scientific insights with real-world implementation, helping stakeholders design nature-positive strategies, strengthen climate resilience, and develop innovative pathways for sustainable land use.
